10...9....8...7...

Well, won't be long! We have been spending the last few days with our students orienting them to life in general here in Guatemala and life as a missionary in particular. It has been so much fun being with them all and with Roger and MaryBeth McCown, former missionaries here in Guatemala. It nice to realize how much we have learned these two years and have to share with our brothers and sisters who are just starting out. This is a group that has already spent a week in language school together and has become quite close. It will be a little sad tomorrow as we separate them into two groups to begin their work. But, it will also be exciting to be able to show them the nitty gritty of what we do each day.

Tomorrow we take 6 students with us to Chichicastenango and introduce them to their host families. We (Kemmel and Lisa) also will be staying with our friends in the small town of Paxot II this month to try to intensify our language learning efforts. Please pray for this to be a productive month for us as we really would like to improve our ability to communicate in K'iche. We have our notebooks ready and bags packed. We will post some news and pics Saturday or Sunday, because we won't have internet out there! Have a great week and thanks for tuning in.

kemmel and lisa,
howdy from aggieland! (we even say that to tu grads)...this morning i was reading an article on your work in guatemala in the most recent edition of the christian chronicle - good story and pictures...

our family has taken an interest in the work being done by HTI, and our daughter, hannah, and a childhood friend will be coming for a week later this summer...

we are constantly blessed as God shows us how He works among His people and how closely connected we are and often we havent even met each other! this past year i met the HTI reps who spoke to our college group at the A&M church...not long after this, our daughter was looking for an opportunity to go abroad and serve again and we came across HTI...this has opened up several connections with your work that we didnt know about and that has been a blessing...about 4-5 months ago, one of our local dentist commented that he was interested in being a part of a medical mission effort - at about the same time, we were looking for opportunities for our daughter...well, i have put the dentist in touch with HTI and hopefully something will come from this for him to join your efforts...

we pray for your safe travel and successful work to the praise of God...we are looking forward to seeing what impact God has planned for our daughter as she comes and works with His people in Guatemala...

to God be the glory, great things He has done!

Kemmel and Lisa! I tried to email you, but was REJECTED!!!!!!!! What's that all about? Mary and I are sitting here reading your blog and longing for the good old days back in Xepocol.
We're getting ready to graduate in...uh...8 weeks. Yikes! Think you can make it? You need to let us know when and where you will be when you come back to America. We want to visit you.
Big news...I'm engaged! The wedding is in December (if you're not busy or anything...) I guess you could say that I worked things out with the boy :)
I miss you guys and think about you a lot. Email me and let me know how you are.
Love Nicole - one of your favorite interns

Hello!
Just wanted to let you know that I am currently working on my master of science in nursing degree and hope to use some of your information form the Christian Chronicle and possibly this blog as part of my references. My topic will be "Medical Missions as a Model of Servant Leadership". I'm very excited about the paper and the resources I have uncovered. I might have to expand on this topic for my thesis, as I am only allowed to fill 10-12 pages for this current assignment. I am finding there is so much to tell! I hope to become a nursing instructor at one of our Christian colleges after rec. my MSN, with a goal to mentor young women (and a few young men) in their spiritual walk as well as their vocation. I have done a little mission work in Sibiu, Romania in July '05 and love the idea of combining my skills as a nurse along with my passion for the lost. My husband, a respiratory therapist, and I would like to devote much of our summers to medical missions if I end up teaching. We will be "empty-nesters "by that point.
just thought I'd let you know what I'm up to. If the paper turns out well, I will send you an attachment.
