Adult Learning

Instruct the wise and they will be wiser still; teach the righteous and they will add to their learning. Proverbs 9:9

I was just thinking about how incredible it is that God allows us to keep learning even as adults.  It's obvious that the kids have the advantage of rapid intake and memorization of new material, but as adults we get the benefit of understanding the importance of the new knowledge and how that will fit into what we already know.
Anyway, we enjoyed a class yesterday with just us medical staff, learning about prenatal nutrition, health and breastfeeding.  Dr. Ruben shared a lot of his experiences in the rural (remote) areas of Nicaragua and everyone had great questions and discussion on the material.  As Dr. Ruben noted, between our 4 health promoters alone, we have 20 kids worth of experience to share with patients!  We discussed our new nutrition program and how to get started finding new moms and presenting the information to them, and the more difficult task of finding willing, older mothers to serve volunteers in the churches to train the new moms.  At the end of the class, Maury spoke up and said that in our church here in Chichicastenango there are three ladies that dedicate time to visiting pregnant moms before and after their deliveries.  She asked if we could share the material with them as it would help them in their ministry.  This may be the start of a great program! Be in prayer for our Leche For Life program as we work to educate young families on raising healthy children.
